The Magic of Hydrogen Peroxide - by Champagne Services

There is most likely a brown bottle in your medicine cabinet full of hydrogen peroxide. It’s great for cleaning up scrapes, easing burns and can even help clear up acne. Did you know it can also help keep your surfaces sparkling clean and germ free?  Its powerful, oxidizing properties works like a bleaching agent and makes a great disinfectant, too! Hydrogen peroxide is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-mold & anti-mildew. And the best part — it’s non-toxic!

Yep, there is a whole lot of magic inside that bottle of hydrogen peroxide!  Here are 5 ways you can clean your home with it.

Before beginning, we strongly recommend testing the mixture on an inconspicuous spot before spraying it everywhere. Remember we mentioned hydrogen peroxide working like a bleaching agent and some countertop and tile materials, like granite, don’t mix well with it.

Countertop Disinfectant

Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water into a spray bottle and shake to mix. Spray generously directly onto the countertop and wipe down with a clean sponge to effortlessly remove germs. You can even add a few drops of essential oils to your mixture. We like lemon and orange best, however lavender and even eucalyptus are great.

Grout Whitener

No matter how diligently you clean your home, it’s inevitable that dirt and dust will get trapped between your tiles and make your white grout look dingy. Simply spray undiluted hydrogen peroxide onto the tiles and allow it to sit. Go, spend time with your family and return with a bucket of warm, soapy water and a toothbrush in 3-5 hours. Using the toothbrush, scrub the grout. Wipe dry with a microfiber towel and say hello to bright white grout. Grab your sunglasses…you’ll need them!

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Pour ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide directly inside your toilet bowl and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. Scrub as normal with your toilet brush and watch hard water stains and calcium deposits disappear before your eyes.

BONUS TIP: Pour hydrogen peroxide directly over your toilet brush when you are through to disinfect it, too!

Mold and Mildew Eraser

Moisture breeds mold and mildew, which is why you are likely to find some in your shower, tub and even, kitchen sink! Pour hydrogen peroxide directly onto your sponge and wipe it away. Voila, all gone!

Refresh Sponges & Rags

Your cleaning supplies need to be cleaned, too. Washing rags in the washing machine and tossing your sponges in the dishwasher are effective cleaning methods but in between, you can soak them in undiluted hydrogen peroxide. This will kill any germs that have hung on and keep them from being redistributed throughout your home.

Keeping your home clean without the use of harsh chemicals is easier than you think. Hydrogen peroxide is one of many non-toxic solutions you can use to keep your home sanitized in between professional cleanings.
