6 PLACES YOU NEED TO CLEAN THIS FALL - by Champagne Cleaning Services

Fall is officially here and that means cooler weather is on the horizon. Now is the time to prepare the inside and outside of your Loudoun home for the upcoming winter. Not sure where to start? Don’t get overwhelmed; we’ve got six places you should focus your energy on. Ready? Let’s go!

BACKYARD

That beautiful deck and patio furniture you enjoyed all summer won’t be needed until next year. Prevent mold and mildew from growing by placing cushions in a watertight bin. You can leave the bin outdoors or store it in your garage or basement. Cover the furniture with heavy-duty covers, too. This will prevent rusting and peeling. Don’t forget about your grill.  While you don’t need to cover it, it will keep its lustrous shine if you do.  When Spring returns, your furniture will be in great condition and ready for another year of good use.

LANDSCAPE AND GARDEN

As cooler weather approaches, your lawn and much of your landscape will go dormant. Before that happens, reseed the bare spots of your lawn and fertilize it so it remains fed through the winter. Take the opportunity to prune bushes and trees, rake up fallen leaves and lay fresh mulch. Now is also the perfect time to plant Spring bulbs. When Spring arrives your landscape will look healthy and your yard will pop with color.

HOME EXTERIOR

The exterior of your home is exposed to the elements of the seasons. Show it some love before the cold weather, snow and ice arrive. Clean out the gutters and ensure they are securely fastened. Clean gutters will allow melted snow to flow freely away from your home. Drain and insulate the hose bibs of your home prevent a burst pipe. Caulk any cracks you may find in your windows and doors. This will not only keep the heat from your home from escaping, but also will keep cold air and water from entering your home.

GARAGE

Your pool and beach gear probably got a good workout in this summer, but alas, it is time to put it away. Free the space in your garage by placing it in bins out of the way. After all, you will need the space for sleds, snow shovels and your skis! Who knows, you may even discover there is enough room in there for your car, too!

CAR

Yep, even your car needs some preparation for the colder weather.  Checking tires, fluids (windshield wiper, coolant and oil) and your battery will minimize the risk of your being stuck on the side of the road during a storm. Take a peek at your spare tire while you are at it and confirm that it is filled with air. Just in case you something does happen, it’s a good idea to have jumper cables, a blanket and flashlight with fresh batteries in your trunk.

KITCHEN

Most people spend more time in the kitchen during the cooler months. Perhaps it’s to prepare comfort food, do some holiday baking or just to take advantage of the extra heat the stove puts off. Get it ready by moving seasonal plates and picnic items to a high shelf or even in a bin until next summer. While you are at it, say good-bye to the pretty pastel towels and potholders you are currently using and swap them for warmer tones. It’s also a great opportunity to give your counters, refrigerator and microwave a thorough cleaning.

Your house is now ready to welcome the cooler months!
