Loudoun County Parks and Playgrounds You'll Want to Check Out!

Did you know that Loudoun County has an abundance of gorgeous parks and playgrounds to choose from? Playgrounds are great places to play year-round and now that winter has given way to spring we are excited to see even more families in parks and on playgrounds. It’s  always fun to mix up your outdoor recreation activities. Getting your children outside is definitely beneficial. It helps them stay more active and keeps them at a lower stress level.

Here is a list of Parks and Playgrounds in the area that consist of a range of activities for the family to enjoy.  For a more comprehensive list, check out the Loudon County list of parks and playgrounds.  And,  Don't forget to bring water, bug spray and plenty of time to get lost in the beauty of nature!


Claude Moore Park, Sterling
Claude Moore Park provides a unique green space amid the neighborhoods and commercial areas in eastern Loudoun. Visitors to the park discover wooded lanes, green meadows, and sparkling ponds while catching a glimpse of wildlife that make their homes in the park's habitats. Natural areas provide peaceful surroundings for hikes, picnics, bird watching and photography.

Fox Ridge Park, Leesburg
Fox Ridge Park is a great playground especially for younger kids.  The playground has swings, fun hedgerows that the kids can sneak through, a covered picnic area that also has a grill under the shelter, a large grassy running area and a baseball diamond and basketball hardtop.  There aren’t any restrooms, so please plan accordingly.

Ashburn Park, Ashburn
Not far from the busy city lights, Ashburn Park is surrounded by tall trees and is home to colorful birds and tame animals.  This park is great in that is has several different play areas that each boast different playthings geared toward various age groups.  There's also swings and a gazebo, plus picnic tables and benches.  Not only is it a great place for kids but also to take your dogs for a walk. There are nice creeks for the dogs to play in.

Trailside Park, Ashburn  
Spend a beautiful sunny afternoon with friends or family at Trailside Park in Ashburn. If your children are more active, you can ride on the W&OD trail to get to it. It is a great place to take young children and watch them run around and play. It is not so large that you can have one child on one play area and another child on the other side and still keep an eye on both of them. The play sets are geared for children of all different ages.

Potomac Crossing Park, Leesburg
Potomac Crossing Park is a newer playground in Leesburg with well maintained structures for kids to play on. The park consists of slides, climbing nets, a picnic area and trails that lead to the Potomac. With so many activities to choose from, what are you waiting for?!

Hadley’s Park Playground, Sterling
Tucked away with lots of places to run, Hadley’s Park Playground is great for big and small kids. There's a sidewalk all around so kids can ride bikes, scooters, or skate around while the little one plays. The playground floor is made of recycled materials which is great for lessening the impact of rough falls, and scrapes.  Lots of possibilities!

Red Rock Wilderness Overlook Regional Park, Leesburg
A Hidden gem in the Leesburg area!  You can make it a 1 hour visit or a couple hours.  It has great trails with lots to see including an area overlooking the Potomac River.  It is gorgeous in the spring when wildflowers are in bloom!  This is a great little hike for dogs, as well.  The trails are well maintained and there is plenty of parking.  The old stone buildings near the parking lot makes for great photography backdrops.

Hamilton Community Park, Hamilton
There is something for everyone at Hamilton Community Park.  Some of its amenities include a gravel area with trucks and diggers, toddler train play gym with baby slide, lots of toddler swings and regular swings, cool Zipline, tire hammock and big playgrounds. The mature trees are a nice shade for parents looking to get out from the heat as well as lots of benches to sit at.  

Kephart Bridge Landing, Leesburg
Nestled away in the uppermost portion of Virginia, this wonderful trail offers some beautiful scenery. Kephart Bridge Landing is the perfect little getaway for the day. Head out to the park for hiking, fishing, kayaking or canoeing. There is lots of wildlife, especially deer which like to hang out right off of the trail. It’s also a great place to absorb a little local history and see the remnants of an old canal system.

Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park, Leesburg
This park has great fields for almost every sport!   Whether you like running, frisbee, soccer, baseball, there is plenty of room for you to stretch your legs.  The sports fields are well maintained, there are bathrooms (hybrid porta John and regular single bathroom toilet), plenty of parking and nice walking trails.
